What you can expect

Adopting a fur baby from WOA? It's kinda like adopting from your local shelter but with a tad more flair. When you choose a WOA pooch, there are a few fun facts you might wanna know.

No need to stress though - we're here for you, and we like to keep things transparent. We've got your back, from picking out your pup to the post-adoption ride. We're in this together!

Leash and Crate 101

Our WOA babies are basically leash and crate connoisseurs. They won't make a fuss about a leash, they know what it's for, and they can stroll around with it - though they might not be ready for a doggy fashion runway just yet.

As for crates, they're like second homes to almost all of our dogs. Daytime naps, and nighttime snoozes, they do it all in their cozy little corners!

Behavior

Some pups might be a little timid at first. They may be shy and a bit jittery with new faces and spaces, but there'll be some who'll leap into your arms at ‘hello’!

We wouldn't send a pup with a biting past your way without a full heads-up, ensuring you're up to the challenge and extra training for your pup in China. We're all about open communication here at WOA.

We can also give you the scoop on how they act at our shelter, but life's full of surprises, right? Our fur babies might show a different side once they settle into their new homes. Predicting how they'll be in a home environment is a bit like guessing the weather, but we're here to help you navigate all the sunny days and stormy ones alike.

Health

All of our fur babies come with flea, tick, and deworm completed 2 weeks before touch-down, and of course, fully up-to-date vaccinations. This includes vaccinations for distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus parainfluenza, and leptospirosis (DHLPP). They'll also get their rabies shots and the rabies titer test that they'll need to touch down in their new country. Our vets give your future fur buddy a full 'nose-to-tail' exam a month before they jet off. This involves checking their eyes, ears, teeth, skin, and paws. They also look for any lumps and bumps, listen to their heartbeats, and do a fecal test - yep, all the glam stuff.

We'll keep you in the loop about any known health issues or treatments your pup might need, or any med history from their time with us. We can't promise a clean bill of health every time, but we sure do our best to keep them healthy and happy.

What we expect

Compassion

The past life of some of our pups wasn't all tail wags and belly rubs. What they need now is a human who's ready to dish out compassion and unconditional love. Someone who'll put their pup's needs above their own, making them feel safe and loved.

Patience

It takes time! Some dogs will jump into your arms in a heartbeat, others might need a little more time to trust and warm up. Remember, every dog dances to their own tune. For the shy ones, we suggest keeping the 3-3-3 rule poster handy - it's a great guide to help understand your pup's adjustment process.

Commitment

From living on the streets and in cages to enjoying the hustle and bustle of a shelter, getting up close and personal with humans can feel a little overwhelming for them. Everyday noises, like vacuum cleaners and cars whizzing by, can make them jumpy too.

But you, their amazing new family, are their rock in this sea of change. Your unwavering commitment and dedication help our fur babies become the best version of themselves.

We think of our adopters as superheroes, ready to stand by their dogs and support them on their journey from rescue to forever home.

All they need from you is unwavering support, patience, and a whole lotta love to guide them through this last leg of the journey. And with your support, help them bloom into happy, confident, thriving dogs living their best lives.
